I guess my question isnt so much about meat as it is about bones. I wonder what a dove stock base for a soup would be like.

I know it's going to sound wasteful, but I typically just pop the breast out. There is so little meat on the rest of the bird that it is really not worth it to pluck them out.
Yep, takes a lot of doves to make a good meal.
Take your breast halves, lay a couple pieces of green onion alongside each and wrap with thick cut bacon. Brush a bit of olive oil on some portabello mushroom caps and then stuff a wrap or two into each cap.
Broil for about 4 or 5 minutes or so, serve with wild/brown rice pilaf.
I do a similar recipe for Quail, Grouse, Ptarmigan and the wild Rock Doves (pigeon) up here.
And Beaks, I am with you on the squirrel and dumplings - mmmm good!
I just looked up what to do with a dove. Does he just take the breasts or does he actually pluck them? I found a tutorial on dressing a whole dove with pics and it's pretty funny, but seem worth it. They look tasty.
Thanks to the google, I know now that apparently some people do eat sandhill cranes. I had no idea. Sounds hard to cook, easy to over do.
Looking forward to this winter and eating some squirrels! We've got so many I could probably pick off a dozen of them in an hour or 2. Not sure all the reasons but was taught to only shoot them in late November through the end of January. Though when they get to be pests, I've been known to eat them at other times. Didn't really notice a difference in taste but they seem cleaner and meat not messed up with bug bites or whatever those little bumps are.
I shot a raccoon today! This morning, in fact, which is very odd, rarely see them out during the day. Surprised how close he let me get to him, less than 50 feet with my .22. Got him in the neck on my first shot, he was moving slowing. He was too busy stalking my chickens to notice me. That one will go to my friend Lamar too, I gotta earn my new traps. Hoping to have another in the trap tonight, so tomorrow I can bring him 2. Today's kill is in a bag in the freezer for now. And yes, it was a raccoon and NOT someone's cat!

All the talk about hunting makes me a bit ashamed to tell you I grew up in the country. My uncles and cousin's on Mom's side and even my aunt; Dad"s older sister hunts. Last time I talked to her she was around 78 and got a deer that year with her black powder rifle. That was four years ago. From what I hear she still goes.
I went coon hunting when I was around 12 with my cousin. We walked through some woods. Never saw a coon but his dog was barking at a tree.
My older cousin spotted what he considered a coon's nest in the tree and fired a 22 rifle 2-3 times then, Informed me that if a coon was in there, it's dead. I didn't see the point. I realise thats not the norm but it did nothing to encourage me to hunt.
One thing my dad did was not raise me exactly like he had been and let make my own choices. I know he hunted as a kid but not sure It was by choice. Apparently Grandpa was a bit of a hardarse. Thats good and bad. His kids all did well in life but none of them, except the oldest farmed for a living or hunted
On a different note you might ask why im up so late? Or maybe you think Im always up late? Not really a wrong assumption. :》
Last few days been finishing up the final touches of getting this house ready to rent and between crazy long work hours lately and the house lrels there hasnt been time to
Goodnight or good morning.
Cheers!

Ticks and mites cause the bumps and you need to watch out for worms when the weather is warm. I like them best mid year and early spring with only the nuts they've cache away as their food source. (they really don't hibernate all winter)![]()
So, I ate some red enchiladas with rice and beans tonight. It was so delicious!
I've finally progressed from mush to soft solid foods.
I wasn't looking for any life lessons, but I sure do realize how much I took my favorite foods for granted before this past Tuesday!
Bad lightning storm tonight and right before the power went out the news said up to 60 MPH winds and get inside away from windows. All is well except I feel sick. Too much whiskey at the storm party.Dang, around here we really know how to party when we think the sky is glowing very strange colors. Amazing storm! Electricity came back on, so that is good. Was pitch black out, making for a wonderful view when lightning striking every few seconds.
Hi everyone!
I felt so much better today!
I decided to brew up a small batch of watermelon IPA with a couple gallons of wort I had in the freezer. It felt great to do something enjoyable!
Glad you're feeling better, you'll be chewing again before you know it!

Haha!
Yeah I had a small watermelon given to me. I can't eat it, because I'm allergic. So I got the wild idea of pureeing it and adding it to the boil. The wort was actually very tasty!
