I think I know the answer, but I'll ask anyways... Has anyone had any off smells with vacuum sealed whole hops coming out of the freezer? They smell kinda "off". They definitely do not smell like the centennial pellets I have. Almost all of the hops are green with a yellow haze on them. I have found a few brown leaves as well... :(:(

What do you think the answer is? As long as they are sealed, I'd say they are fine. You might not get the same aroma from pellets as leaf hops. A few brown leaves are not going to hurt anything. A better description of the off scent might be useful.

Usually hops that are old/oxidized are described as smelling "cheesy"... And I think they may turn yellowish also...

Yep, old hops have a yellow, tan, or dull color to them and smell a little funky. The cheesy smell is kind of true but they don't smell like a Limburger or anything. Fresh hops will be vibrant green and very fresh smelling. I have only gotten old hops from one store, a couple different times, shame on me I suppose, and you will definitely know.

I hope you can return those if you have that many... bummer dude :drunk:

that's what I thought too... I don't know if cheesy is the word, but they are not comparable in smell to my pellet hops... I'm gonna have to track down the guy on ebay...
