I have found feral or naturalized hops growing in the chehalis valley near the outskirts of old hop growing farms that date to 1915

depending on your region. Hops grew naturally in upper northern U.S. and Canada. I believe these were mostly similar to or actually cluster hops.

as far as genetics...leave that to the professional horticulturalists producing different varieties.

I have seen wild hops and had some huge cones (not many) but then again this was down river from a couple breweries in the early 1900s. I have to assume the rubbish from the bales of hops propagated down stream.
