Hey everyone

So I am working on my first batch and planning to bottle this week, did not take a hydrometer reading in the begining. What number should I be around for an english pale ale to be sure it is ready to bottle?

Was it a kit? Does the kit have a range for the FG? If not, I'd say if you were in the teens, you're likely finished. How long have you primaried for?

From what they told me, (I have just drank my first 1 week in the bottle beer, and it was good) you need the same reading for 3-4 days in a row, after it has done the serious fermenting from mixing. Way I understand it...it's not gonna hurt to let it set extra days, as opposed to not lettin it set long enough...but, you want a steady reading over a 3-4 day period, minimum...or you get "bottle bombs" from them secondary fermenting too hard after you bottle...correct me, if I'm wrong, fellas.

The only way to be sure you're done fermenting is with the same FG reading for a few days in a row. The OG reading is important because with it you can guesstimate your FG reading. The attenuation that is associated with the yeast is key in determining a FG. If you bottle before fermentation is complete you can get a very carbonated beer that is very stringent on the tongue or worse, you could end up with bottle bombs.

alright all, its a brewers best kit, english pale ale, did not take the OG rating. after my first reading the FG was at 1.010, after looking at the instructions looks like it should be between 1.010 and 1.014, it looks, smells and surprisingly tastes good. what do you guys think?

monitor over the next 2 days then bottle if all the same? is it alright that it is closer to the lower end of the range?

I is probably done, but as you will have read around here, 3 weeks in the fermenter is best to allow some conditioning and clarifying. Same with in the bottle, give it 3 weeks.

Alright, any other advice? I will prob work on cleaning the bottles today or tommorow then bottle it around the 3 week mark which would be friday.

Go ahead & clean the bottles, but store them till bottling day inboxes or something to keep'em clean till then. Then sanitize them right before filling.
