Hydrometer proplems ..

Ok I'm sure there is a much better to do it , but I been trying to take my hydro reading by dropping the it in my thief ... The thief appears to have enough clearance around for it to float freely but it sticks to the side of the thief ... It's gets star-san with all my other gear and it's only been used A few times ... Anybody have this problem ? Or have a home remedy ?

Just sterilize the Hydro and spin it in your bucket, but if your using a Carboy, use the plastic container the hydro came with.........
