just gonna post up a quick intro, b/c i've got a serious question or 12.

brewed my first beer (extract) 2 nights ago.......things went better than expected until the explosion:(

dunno what happened but it tore apart my arerator and sent future beer all over the place ---- fiance' = NOT HAPPY:D

i'm not gonna quit though, i can't stand something "beating me" and i'll get one good home brew out before i toss in the towel -- hopefully, at that time, i'll know enough to make the next morning enjoyable:D

Aerator? You mean airlock?

Ah, yes, the ol' blowoff. Fun times! Believe me, you're not the first, nor the last.

What you need to do is fix your fermenter with a blowoff tube, which is easy if you're using a carboy. Go to lowes and they have clear vinyl tubing that you can get cut-to-length. You probably need the 1.25" OD tubing (you should measure the inside diameter of the carboy opening), 4 or 5 feet of it. Sanitize it, and instead of using a rubber stopper or carboy cap, you slide the end of the tube just into the opening - not too far, just enough to create a seal. Then you put the other end into a bucket of sanitizer solution. If/when your fermentation blows off, it'll go into the bucket, which you can empty, rather than all of the walls and ceiling.

yeah, airlock, sorry....i've got about 10 things going at once and couldn't find the correct term in my brain.

thanks for the advice!
