I guess this probably seems like a dumb question, but this my first time using it. Here's what happened.

Made a batch of schlenkeras lite ale triple hopped. Sanatized fast fermenter, transferred the wort to it after whirlpool and chilling, and let ferment without issue. I let ferment without the collection ball and valve closed.

Now here's where I'm not sure if I'm doing it right .Went to do secondary. So I could dry hop and add the amylaze enzyme. I attached the ball after sanitizing, and opened the valve to let the yeast drop out. Two problems occured with this. Letting the yeast drop out caused a vacuum which made the air lock suck back, allowing starSan and air into the fermenter. And the other problem is I didnt get all the yeast out.
So my questions are:
Should the collection ball be connected and valve open during primary?
Since I didn't have the collection ball on, is that why I didn't get all the yeast out?
Did i run the risk of oxidizing my beer with the vacuum that occurred?

Thanks for the help.

DOH!
Went to fast ferment site to send an email asking the question, and lo and behold there's a video on the site.
In case anyone comes acrossed this thread wondering the same thing, the collection ball gets left attached with the valve open for prinary, removed and emptied and reattached for secondary.
Sorry all for the forum clutter.

Helpful Hint:

Yeast settles on the sides of the fermenter above the collection ball/jar (at least it does on my FastFerment). I use a butter knife and gently tap the fermenter above the ball/jar a couple of times every day (if I can remember). This helps all the yeast settle into the ball/jar.

I did notice it was collecting on the sides. I gave a slight tap a couple times with my hand but it only knocked a little lose. Ill try this. Thanks for the tip.
