Hello, I'm just getting into yeast washing (Just cause I want to do it) And I understand using a calculater to tell you how much slurry to pitch. However I am probably massively over thinking this but how do you actually go about measuring this amount? Like in a beaker, graduated cylinder, or measuring cups, thanks in advance.

I store mine in small 250ml jars and guess based on the fullness of the jar... if it 1/4 full then it has aprox 60-65ml of yeast slurry in it.

Mason jars, perhaps pint or half pint sizes will give you an approximate measurement. You are basically "guesstimating" cell count by volume anyway, so this method will be adequate. This strategy mirrors what @beerlover77 said in the previous post.

I certainly appreciate that you are washing yeast and would never sway you not to continue forward. If you ever tire of that process, harvesting slurry w/o washing often yields successful results as well.

Thanks this whole process is putting strain on my brain but I think I have figured it out!

I understand yeast theory is hard to wrap your head around. Its hard to envision there are a billion cells in a tiny amount of slurry, and trying to estimate the cell count is hard to figure. Just remember this is a game of "approximations", and unless you have a microscope and related gear, you'll usually be close enough.
