1. I see a lot of recipes that call for half pound increments, or even third or quarter pound. Hops call for .5 oz sometimes. Online, I find most stores only sell by the pound (including specialty grains) and hops by the ounce.

2. The recipe calls for 3lbs amber lme. The online store only has amber dme. How do I order 3 pounds online, then get it and measure out 2.4 pounds when it all comes in one bag?

Do you guys have food scales, or just guesstimate?

NorthernBrewer allows you the enter fractional weights. A lot of places do, actually. Just remember your basics:

454 grams in a pound
16 ounces in a pound
~28 grams in an ounce

1/2 pound = 8 oz
1/4 pound = 4 oz, or $250 if it's schwag
1/2 oz = 14 grams
1/4 oz = 7 grams
1/8 oz = 3.5 grams
Dimebag = ~1 or 2 grams. Oops...I mean...umm...

Most of us use scales. For recipes that don't evenly divide by 3.3 lbs of LME, multiply the amount by 80% (to account for "water weight") and use DME.

Just use 3lbs, it doesn't have to be that close unless you have to hit that target OR dead on. Thats what I do. Besides more fermentables means more alc.

I prefer frequent, periodic additions during the boil. ;)

really?

i've been wondering..

i do "hippiestyle hop" additions at the end of the boil

wasn't sure how it would affect the outcome...couldn't hurt i guess

i have added theses special hops in everyone of my brews so far :fro:
