I just got a bunch of new kegs that have not been used for anything since they had soda in them. I gave them a good oxyclean soak, changed the post and lid o-rings and there is no residual soda smell the keg now.

However, I have no dip-tube o-rings on hand and I have a batch I want to get in the keg asap. Do you think using the old o-rings will be fine or will I be drinking soda-flavored beer?

Thanks!

Do you know what type od soda was in them? Root beer flavor is notorious for being hard to get rid of.

Im guessing though, that if you cant smell it, it is probably ok. Especially if you are going to be keggin' a stong flavor profile beer...

smell em. hell wash em good and lick one. if it doesn't taste funny its fine.

and the dip tube o-rings don't get into too much contact with beer, so unless it was really funky (like rootbeer tainted), it should be fine.

yea i mean none of the metal parts or the inside of the keg smell, the o-rings have a mild citrus soda scent, that is it.

I think I will roll with it.

You should be fine.
I didn't replace mine (just cleaned them), and the kegs sat in a barn for about 10 years with some residual soda in them before I bought them.
