I have read that mead needs to be oxygenated for the first 2-3 days. How much oxygen do you add and how? Is just shaking the carboy enough or should I use my oxygenation setup/stone? Is doing this once a day for three days correct? MY OG is 1.116 if that helps.

If you can get a stir bit for a drill that is the easiest way i think. I use one that is meant to stir paint in a 5 gallon bucket. That being said, that probably wont work if your primary is a carboy since the neck is too narrow. If you just shake it it will degas it but wont add oxygen since you would probably be shaking it with a lid or air lock so as not to make a mess. You need to introduce outside air. Thats why i think its best to use a bucket for your primary. Not to mention taking gravity readings is easier. Just stir it for a few minutes at a time three or four times a day (if not more).

I think I will try to shake to degas and then use my oxygen setup.
