I planted 2 centenial rhizomes this year. On of them has 2 shoots coming up but the other one has 5 shoots. They are not growing very fast. I assume it's because we have had hardly any sun yet. Should I cut off some of the ones with 5 shoots? Two of them are 3 inches tall, the other 3 are just coming up. If I do cut some off, the big ones or the little ones? I read it both ways.

Since this is your first year, I would just let all of the bines grow. On your second year, then choose 4-6 bines per crown and train those. I always pick the thickest, fastest growing bines to train.

I agree. You won't get much of a harvest this year anyway, and I wouldn't do anything to slow them down the first year. I'd let them all grow and develop.

I have too many hops now, so I don't bother cutting/training what I have and they grow very well, but when I first started them I trained 4 bines per crown.
