The ultimate car thread got me to thinking about all the cars I've owned over the years. (I still haven't gotten my beloved Austin Healey 3000)
I decided to make a list to see if I could remember them all. I don't think I left any out.
(in order of when they were acquired)
1969 VW Bug
1964 Chevy Impala SS
1974 Chevy Vega
1964 Chevy Impala SS
1976 VW Rabbit
1972 Triumph Spitfire
1970 Chevy Truck
1973 Ford Courier
1971 VW Super Beetle
1972 Pontiac GTO
1973 Ford Capri 2600
1969 Pontiac Catalina Station Wagon
1970 VW Bus
1978 Pontiac Catalina 4-door Sedan
1973 Ford Capri 2600
1989 Ford Festiva
1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500
1974 MG Midget
1991 Mazda Miata
1968 Triumph Spitfire
1994 Mazda Miata
1987 Suzuki Samurai
2000 Mazda Miata
23 cars total from 1979 to present.
Wow..I haven't thought about this in a while. Pretty sure this is the correct order for
83 Honda Accord (Manual) - First car. Killed it, over 250K Miles. Taught my brother and now wife how to drive manual w/this car.
89 Toyota Truck (Manual) - Hand me Down : Mom reclaimed it
Marriage...so multiple vehicles after this
83 Toyota Camry (Manual) - Hand me Down: Over 200K Miles and a rebuilt transmission : Killed it before mom could reclaim it!
96 Toyota Tacoma (Manual) - Hand me Down : Mom reclaimed it
02 Hyundai Sonata - Traded In for Honda Odyssey below
01 Suzuki SV650 - Sold, probably never should have gotten rid of this bike.
05 Triumph Speed Triple SE - Totaled shortly after 6 months and 5K miles...
05 Scion xB - Hated this vehicle..but it was slow and cheap. 2 requirements after totaling a more or less new motorcycle...
05 Honda Odyssey - Taking 2 cars to transport 3 kids got old super quick...hence the minivan. 180K+ miles and rebuilt transmission -> Donated to Humane Society and auctioned. CarMax wouldn't take it.
82 Toyota Truck (Manual) - Loved this thing. FUGLY as all get out...totally stripped. 4 speed manual, no power anything but drove like a champ...until it didn't. Herky jerky..engine light would come and go, got to the point where I wasn't willing to put any more money into it.
08 Honda 600RR - Funds from SV650 went here for this track toy, sold because those track days just got too damn expensive...
08 Yamaha WRX - Gave this to my dad so he could continue riding in desert. Very much looking forward to getting it back when he decides to hang up his boots.
04 Toyota Tacoma - This replaced the 82 truck above. This one had power everything, AC, cruise control over 300K miles and ran like a freakin champ. Until..I gave it to my son....because I felt bad because he had no vehicle to drive after he totaled his car in an accident. About 6 months afterwards, he moved out..and..then he proceeded about a year later to destroy the cylinder head. I usually tell that story by starting off with "Yes, you can kill a Tacoma just ask my son how..." . Yeah..still bitter about this one. I had hoped at one point to repeat the cycle of reclamation
Current Stable
16 Subaru Outback (Wife's Car)
19 Kia Optima (My Car)
16 Triumph Tiger - Funds from 600RR went into this bike, much more practical and more fun since I can/will ride this one on the street.
12 Chevy Volt (Kids Car)
you my sir, have owned A LOT of vehicles!
You high-sided? It was on a race track though? Close contact with bales of hay I hope.highsided it at 75 mph...

I'm glad it all turned out well (more or less). I only ride the cruiser but am respectfully afraid of the chain of maneuvers that can high-side the rider. But still 100x safer than riding on the street lol.
2001 Suzuki SV650S: Miss that bike. So much fun... Bought the below so I could do track days with it and highsided it at 75 mph...
Got my license in 1967. Since then-

2018 Chevy Equinox (only kept it 6 months; my wife hated it)
2018 Chevy Colorado (our current daily driver and commuter car between the farm and the city house)
25 vehicles in 55 years and only 9 were bought new. Yes, I am a cheap SOB
I once knew a KLM pilot who flew Boeing 747s, but he didn't have a drivers' license. He lived in Amsterdam and rode a bicycle most places, or took the train or other public transportation. Had another friend (U.S. based airline pilot) who was born and raised in New York City. Took public transit everywhere, or walked or took a cab. Finally he decided that "a rich airline pilot" deserved to have a proper automotive status symbol. First he bought an SL Mercedes, then learned to drive it. Literally, he bought the car and then took driving lessons. He lived in the City and only drove it on the weekends. Cost him an arm+leg to garage it during the week.None.
I don't even have a driver's license.
And yes, I am of drinking age.
Our farm vehicles aren’t owned by me, personally, but by our business. Like most farms, we have a collection of, mostly, older trucks and pickups, most of which are used for a specific purpose and never leave the farm. We have two semis, a 1990 Peterbilt 377 and a 2000 Volvo VN 64, and several trailers. One old truck, which is more interesting than the rest, is a 1954 GMC 1 ton dually with an 8 foot dump box. My maternal grandfather was a GMC dealer in the little town of Harlem, MT back in the 50s. My paternal grandfather bought that truck, along with a 54 5-window pickup, new from the other grandfather. My dad sold the pickup almost 40 years ago but we still have the one ton. We don’t really use it for anything, though it does run. It’s worth having around for sentimental value alone. I think it only has about 27-28K miles on it.Maybe you should list your heavy trucks too, would be amusing. 9 new cars in 55 year would hardly be called cheap in my book, I think the newest car I ever bought was 6 or 7 years old when I bought it.
