how do i tell my target gravity

how do i figure out my target gravity. I made a milk stout and my OG was 1.056. I used white labs british ale with a attenuation of 67% - 74%. Just would like to know if i could figure it out so i know when a good time to transfer to secondary is.

Not sure of the composition of your grist but I put 11# of Maris Otter in beersmith and added a package of White Labs WLP005 and my OG estimate was 1.056 and my FG estimate with that yeast was 1.016 ....

Well, if your OG is 1.056 and the attenuation is 67%-74%, you could expect a FG of 1.014-1.018.

If you use more crystal malts in your recipe, you'll probably be at the low end of attenuation (1.018 or so), but if you use more fermentable ingredients, you may end up at the higher end of the expected attenuation, closer to the 1.014 or so.
