Maybe things have changed, but I'm on my second Samsung black and white laser, and both have been great: inexpensive, with replacement toner that is super cheap. For color, we use an Epson eco tank which has also been a trooper.
Edit: wow, I have been out of it a while. Samsung's printer division was acquired by HP in 2016. At least we'll always be able to count on Sears and their Craftsman tools, amirite?
