So I have been getting bored with the hops in my freezer lately. I decided I would try some new stuff so I ordered Pacifica, Nelson Sauvin, and Galaxy from Farmhouse brewing. Awesome, they arrived yesterday, I am working on some new recipes.
I sit down with my wife tonight, about to watch a show, and my phone rings. It's my mom's fiance. He repairs industrial equipment for mines and farms. A client walked in the other day, turns out the guy is a hop grower! I think it is Paonia, CO. So my soon to be step-dad talks to the guy a minute, and ends up getting the guy to throw 4 oz samples of all their hops into the deal for fixing his conveyor belt. So long story short, I'm getting 4 oz of 9 different hop varieties free! I feel like a lucky bastard, just had to share.

wouldn't 1lb samples be better? Just saying. Doesn't really cost the guy anymore but enables you to actually brew a hoppy beer.

hey chump... i'm from that area (nampa and boise)...accepting 4 oz samples is better than saying "is that all?"

How many beers have you brewed?

Not to be an ass or anything, but you give me 4 ounces of 9 different varities and I'll brew some damn hoppy **** for just short of year, if one doesnt take into account dry hopping.

Dry hopping? 6 months. Maybe a tad less

And you'd better bet that at least a few of those hops are going to be "wasted" by building upon some SMaSH recipes and seeing what works and what doesnt (some extra grain will be wasted also). Its part of homebrewing right? Being adventureous.

Or better yet 100 lb. samples ... or how about more than 9 varieties....

Gift horse man. I'd be psyched to receive anything from a grower ... no middle man, no aging and poor handling.

Grats on the gift!

No need for more, I already have around 3 lbs of hops in the fridge. 4 oz samples is enough to learn about flavor profiles and create new recipes. I have been on a streak of good luck the last month, I hope my car doesn't die soon... When I receive the hops I will post what varieties they are.

+100.

I was maybe more of the backside of a mule than I meant to be.

My bad Bbrim.

Your car wont die soon? Let me introduce you to a funny thread about cars.....https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f14/yoopers-famous-265873/index10.html#post3225655

My 99' Tacoma has over a quarter million miles.

You're car is fine! Experiment with those hops my man.

(BTW, at least a couple of those hops are just a tad hard to grab. A few New Zealands if I'm not mistaken)

didn't mean to come across as an ass. It's just the homebrew talking I guess. Just saying that your boy coulda said 1lb as easily as 4oz and set you up with multiple brews or a hoppy some bitch NW IPA. Congrats on the score man.

Hear this also.

But its kind like asking what one could do with a billion bucks that he couldnt do with 2 billion.

Take it and be happy.

I'd be PUMPED to have the hops (free) for a NZ IPA
