Greetings,

Looking for advice on amount of late addition/whirlpool hops for a light, hoppy ale I'm considering for this weekend. I realize hop perception can vary from person to person, but I'm looking for any opinions:

Golden Promise Malt - 100%
Target OG: 1.052 (5.33% ABV)

60 min: Citra 28 IBUs
20 min: 2:1 Mosaic:Citra 17 IBUs
10 min: 2:1 Mosaic:Citra 10 IBUs
WP 170F, 20 mins.: 2 oz. ea. Mosaic & Citra (4 oz. total)
All leaf hops

Yeast will be 1056 - mashing in @ 149F.

I've never really used this kind of late hop schedule in such a light beer. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Dan

I'd add 3oz Citra and 3oz Mosaic in a dry hop to drive up the aroma even more, but I'm sure it'll have plenty anyway. Your choice as to when you want to add them either early or late in the fermentation.

Maybe save the Citra in the bittering addition and use Magnum instead.

Looks like it'll be tasty either way!

I'd be tempted to lower your bittering IBUs to around 20, and push your flavor hops towards 15 or 10 minutes remaining. Mosaic can be potent, and I find you don't need a lot of it to get what you want. It might even overtake the Citra, especially at 2:1 ratio (but that's fine). For my tastes, dry hopping isn't needed on a balanced pale ale with a potent hop like Mosaic, but I do like to occasionally add an ounce DH which I find adds plenty of hop aroma. As cooper points out, you can go heavy on the dry-hop too if your tastes favor strong hop presence.
