I have been trying to find a nice crisp drink for the early spring here in AtlGA.. I liked SA.Noble Pils when it first came out, but somehow something changed (Oh it's me not you SA, its me ;))..
I was thinking of doing my first lager and making a little hoppy and sessionable (if this is really a linked word)..
OK.. So here is the
Recipe Idea for 5.25Gal
3.0#Pils DME
1.5#Golden DME
0.25# Carmel10
0.25# CaraVienna

1.0oz MtHood@60
0.25oz Cascade @15
0.25oz Cascade @5
0.5oz Cascade Dryhop
SafLager 34/70 (2packs)

Any Comments?? All are welcomed (Positive and Not So Positive)

4.5 pounds of DME gives me a projected OG of 1.038 in 5.25 gallons- is that what you were thinking? That's low, but ok if that's what you're looking for. .25 ounce of cascade for flavor and aroma won't really be "hoppy" tasting, although it might be discernible in the beer.

I probably wouldn't use both the caramel 10 and the caravienna- that gives you 10% crystal malt, and that's a lot in a 1.039 beer. I'd cut that in half, or at least go no higher than about 7% if I liked really sweet beers.

Thanks Yooper.
I wanted a true session beer that my pals and I can consume in larger quantities. We can only go so far with our 8%+- batches, but we do give it h3!!. :)

I may up the DME slightly, but I was shooting for an OG of about 1040. I will adjust the hops and remove the CaraVienna.

If you want I will send you a few so you can judge this experiment..

That sounds great. I really am trying to make sessionable beers- I like my beer and like have several a day/evening. I can't sit and drink big IPAs all night long, so I'm trying to make more lower ABV beers. It's harder than it sounds, as I still want great hop flavor and a malt backbone. A just-under-4% beer sounds great!
