hopped can kit question

I made a hopped can kit and had trouble with my stove and could not get the water to boil. after an hour my water was around 195 f and i was pushed for time so i dumped it in the bucket with the extract and the sugar. everything got dissolved and i added the rest of the water, chilled it with my wort chiller to 70 f and pitched the yeast. will there be any problems because the first 2.5 gallons never actually came to a boil?

You should have no problems. The temperature your brewing water reached was well above pasteurization temperature. You could try a 2 gallon boil for your next brew, or start the same volume in two boil kettles.

Pasteurization happens in some 30 minutes @ 142F or so, in seconds @ 160F. So you're good there. But large volumes & especially electric stoves do not get along well. I bought some aftermarket heating coils for our stove off amazon that heats my mash/sparge wort from mash temps to boiling in about 18 minutes. The link is in my profile for anyone interested. Since I do 3 1/2 gallon partial boils in my 5 gallon BK/MT, they help tremendously.

thanks for the info but my stove is one of those glass top jobs. i dont thing i could soup it up. maybe i will have to get one of those things you plug in and stick in the pot. i cant remember what they are called. ..
