I have heard of making hop tea to sample how it will smell and taste. What I would like to know is how much water and hops is needed?

I've made hop tea using 1 gal of water and 1 oz of hops. Boil 1 hour and there will be under 1/2 gal in the end.

I generally use a quart of water and 1/4 ounce. Hate to waste hops, even free hops. I need to do this with the drainage ditch hops I picked last week, as I'm planning a single hop batch. I suspect they are either Brewer's Gold or Bullion. I'll pour off a sample at 15 minutes to get a better idea of what the flavor will be.
