Hooking CO2 regulator to airlock...?

Is there any reason I can't use some of that red tubing to hook up my regulator to the stem of a 3 piece airlock? I'm thinking if I can get the tubing to fit over the airlock stem I could just turn the regulator on to ~1-2psi while I'm cold crashing to avoid oxidation and the dreaded starsan suck-back.

I'm currently using a 6 gallon BetterBottle, #10 stopper with a 3 piece airlock.

My biggest concern is that this is a mixed fermentation Saison. Is it possible to contaminate the regulator itself? I'm not so much concerned about the red tubing as I'm upgrading everything to EVA, which is why I now have random lengths of the red stuff kicking around. Cheers!

You can definitely hook up the tubing to the airlock and cold crash that way. Should work out.

You can also buy one of these....

I stick one of these in the bung and hook up my CO2 to this when I was doing that with my brew bucket. Same concept, but with this, you don't have to mess with getting the tubing on the 3 pc airlock.

The only little "extra" thing I had to do was use a small piece of tubing over the hose barb on this carbonation cap to essentially make the hose barb bigger in diameter to get it to seal in the bung. You just may want to buy a different hose barb to screw on this carbonation cap that will seal in the bung.
