Homebrew contest question

I made an English dark ale from a recipe I found in a book. I made a small hop substitution because I couldn't get the hops it called for but essentially it was just like the recipe. It turned out great. Can I enter it in a competition or is that ethically a no no.

just because you brewed the same recipe doesn't mean its the same beer....

You brewed it. Enter it.

If you bought SNPA and delabelled the bottles and submitted it, than yeah, that would be lame.

Unless the competition itself has explicit rules about ingredients, I wouldn't bat an eye. Homebrew recipes are just a guide--the final product is what counts!

Does it have any BJCP judges on the panel? I learned a LOT when I put mine in for competition.

Yeah there is BJCP judges. It's one of the reasons I want to enter; to get the feedback.

For SOME styles, if your beer is a clone of a commercial beer, you must state that fact. (Probably only specialty beers) Study your contest rules and you'll be ok Good luck!!
