I recently got two hoff stevens kegs and they both have wooden plugs. I want to turn them into Boil Kettles. Anyone know where to get a replacement plug and easy way to solve this.
If I were going to make a kettle out of those, I would remove the bung, and weld a cap over it. No need for a replacement, just seal it up. You'd be lucky if they were just decoration like Pigroaster says.
a few breweries use these exclusively... they fill them through the bung and seal them up with a mallet.
i'd go to a welder and ask them to seal that hole... or use them for casking!
I use a Hoff Stevens keg for HLT. I replaced the wooden bung with a silicone one. I think it would work fine as a boil kettle. I will get back with some pictures later.

What is the problem with the wooden bung that is already in there? The boil will sanitize it, and they are press fit in there damn tight so it is not going to come out.
A # 10 silicone bung with 2 washers, a bolt, and a wing nut. Insert the bung and hardware. When you tighten the wing not the bung expands for a leak tight seal.
