Hey sorry if I am not aloud to post a wine question here (I can just delete the thread). I am new and have a few basic questions. I am making hobo wine with welches grape juice. When I transfer it to another bottle can I just poor it through a coffee filter? Or should I just poor as much as I can until it gets to the bottom and leave the rest with the sediment?

Also can I use boiling microwave water for sanitizing my bottle ( I am transferring it to another plastic bottle)?

Also champagne and beer yeasts are expensive. I used cooking yeast and I expect it to taste that way. Are there any cheap yeasts I can buy or buy in bulk?

Once again I am sorry if this is the wrong place. I know this is a serious brewing forum and I apologize ahead of time if this isn't right.

If you are looking to make hooch go somewhere else on the net they don't like the hooch scene here. You could use bread yeast but you will pay for it. Why don't you spend some money and try to make something worth drinking. If you want to learn how to make beer and wine here great you will be welcomed with open arms if you are just trying to make something to get drunk on search for another site. Getting drink is not the focus here is ti just a side effect.

Maybe I like hobo wine or maybe I am trying something new just to get my feet wet before I spend some cash. Maybe I am not trying to get "drink". Your response did not answer many of my questions and was for the most part a waste. Think before you judge my friend ;)

So if anyone else on this forum is "allowed" to answer questions on this thread please help me out :).

wine yeast is 50 cents a pkg... you are going to get some awful swill with whatever you're making using regular bread yeast and grape juice. If I were you i'd follow EdWort's Apfelwine recipe (use the search feature)and sub grape juice if you really wane grape flavor.

as far as pouring... I'd try to siphon it off so you don't oxidize your "Hobo Wine" and the micro will work as long as you keep it boiling for a good 10 min... might have to reduce the power settings on your micro. But, doing that with a plastic bottle might melt it.

You would probably be better off sanitising with bleach if you don't have anything better, just make sure you rince well. As pointed out, you usually siphon off from above the sediment, pouring from it is almost impossible and it will block a filter really quickely.
You are much better off getting a pack of wine yeast, its still cheap, will taste better and leave a more compact sediment at the end.

First thing is that your posting in the beer section...we have a big winemaking section of the fourm here. And in there there are quite a few threads on how to make good wines, even with welche's grape juice. Plus there's lots of knowledgable winemakers that can help you, or at least talk you out of using bread yeast.
