Enjoy while you can!

I dunno if it's just me but did anyone else notice this batch of Abner is just absurdly good? Had one at Blackback Friday and then a growler Saturday and it just blew me away. Seemed different than I recall but in a great way.

S&S 5, Edward, Harlan et al were all tasting great as well.

Magic Abner

So what is everyone thinking about Works of Love: Tired Hands?

It's light on the carb with an extremely simple nose. Meyer Lemon and some lemongrass but it is a little medicinal in the nose.

I'm getting a vey sweet tartness that reminds me of Anna a little. Some lemon soured oranges perhaps? It finishes sweet with an good amount of dryness. Love it!

And yes it's true! I have no idea what to take from the spicebush. What is a spicebush anyways? Maybe I should have researched before tasting.

Overall thoughts? It is excellent! I really enjoyed this much more than I expected to. Not ever having a beer with spicebush though, it intrigued me.

Someone share what they thought of this beer with me please!

I ******* told you... Spicebush is a stripper. Os said she's probably a ginger.

Erazo and Mark agreed so it must be true.

Drink at your own risk, pal.

Wolverines66 (I am pretty sure you/we? were all together for this Abner revelation on Friday, but whatever)

I got a very "botanical" nose, almost like one would expect from juniper berries or gin barrel aging, then a lot of lemony citrus in the taste. Really enjoyable beer.

All the hops I had from HF this past weekend seemed like they were dramatically better. I liked them before but Edward and Harlan were much improved. Did he change something at the brewery ?

This batch of Abner is fantastic! Noted it when I grabbed a couple growlers a couple weeks ago. Abner is one of my all-time favorites from Hill so I get it everytime it's on when I'm up there and I must say this time was an extra special delight.

looks like a new IPA available this week as well!

  • Three Magic Letters: American IPA brewed with Simcoe, Nelson, and Riwaka hops. 6% abv ($8/$16)
Three Magic Letters used to be a rotating series of IPAs from HF. I think it became Excursions in 2014, according to this thread from way back when.

Yup, agreed, the Abner I had at Blackback was the best Abner I have ever had. A little juicier than previous batches, the malt was pushed more into the background of the beer, perfect amount of bitterness, and no presence of booze whatsoever.

Just had an Earl bottled 5-6-16. I was expecting the coffee to drop off from the last one i had around christmas, but i think i enjoyed this one better than any i have had since release. Anyone else notice this from this batch or Earl in general as it comes up on one year in bottle?
