Hard to fault HF for employing basic principles of supply and demand, yet also hard to forget that Flora (750) was once $15, Mimosa and Ann (750s) were $20, Juicy and CD5 (375s) were $8, etc.

Find me many other brewers who lowered prices on growlers. Big DIPA’s went from $22 to $18.

welp... had a nice May 2014 Anna tonight and i'm feelin all right

if i was going when they had a special onsite bottle i'd probably get it regardless bc i can't make it often and when I do its always a great time and i basically throw away any preconceived notions of anything besides pleasing myself YEM

and then you'd complain that it was CW only...

You got the wrong guy. I don’t do that. CW gets what they get. Us plebes get what we get. They pay a premium for this privilege. I’m fine with that.

My point was it seems like a waste to give this illustrious, magnificent, unprecedented, scrumtrulescent beer on us great unwashed in this small format. I think it’s silly to give gen pop a “taste” of a 375 bottle and charge them $75 for it. That’s all.

I hope I phrased this properly.

"I'm happy to drop $300 on a bottle of wine. Of course it tastes no differently from nor is it any better than the $25 bottle of wine"

"I refuse to pay $60 to try an onsite bottle of beer that almost no one else in the world will ever get to try and will almost certainly be unique at least. That's robbery, how dare they"

This all sounds very legit to this simple man

Well, they sell cans of these beers now at $18/6pk. Would be hard to sell growlers if the cans were still up for more $/oz.
Btw where is this $60 price for Anne coming from or is that misunderstood from another Ann?

The last time HF released Ann on-site only, you had people booking flights to go up so they could split a $60 375ml bottle and get that Instagram/Untappd tick and it sold out in what, a day? I don't blame them one bit for the pricing structure on these rare releases, especially when there's always plenty of reasonably priced options available (both on-site and to-go). It would be one thing if stuff like Anne were the only choices available, but between the pale ales, the shelf saison bottles (which are excessively reasonably priced by virtually any standard), and the other options that may be vai (lagers, Everett, etc.)

Also hard to forget when it could take several hours in line to get 6 growler fills, or beers like Arthur and Anna were limited and frequently not even available. You take the good changes with the bad (higher prices on limited beers). Heck even with the Flora example: is 1pp at $15 preferable to 4pp at $30 (or whatever it was last time)? Probably depends on the person right?

It's a luxury product and is being priced as such. I can see why some might think the pricing is disingenuous given some previous messaging, but the fact that the pricing has remained so reasonable in other areas salves that wound for me as a consumer. No one else is making saisons the quality of Anna and Arthur for $10 a pop and the prices on both cans and growler fills are a bargain as well.

It's tough for me to complain about price when I know that, if I were gonna be there on Wednesday, my wife and I would be splitting that bottle without hesitation.

Waiting for it. I almost posted before but thought twice about it

Already posted it, got deleted.

This was not me, I was at Suarez yesterday but I read the convo in the group message. It was only deleted because it was posted prior to the public announcement. We don't like to let the cat out of the bag before hand. Just respecting the staff.

That's true, of course. Said another way: my opinion of HF has changed as of late & this doesn't help. I cannot help that a hyped $75 375ml rubs me the wrong way. Didn't SH once preach about a sense of place and brewing beer for Greensboro? According to Wikipedia, the per capita income in Greensboro, VT is $19,396. A $75 375ml feels pretty off-brand. Anyway -- I know that this is an unpopular opinion and so I'll quiet down. On a positive note, I have a 3yr old bottle of Clara in the fridge I'm pretty excited to open later!

You got that bottle of Clara 3 years ago for $10. You can go this week to replace that bottle with any number of $10 bottles. That's a pretty solid sense of place. (SARA has their shelf beers at what, $18?) I'm all for free speech, but I feel that any concerns being voiced about the price of bottles on the other end of the spectrum, should also include a grateful thank you for the fact that Arthur bottles have remained the same price since they have opened. That or...

"Shaun Hill is easily the best brewer in the world. There's honestly no one else remotely in his class, in my estimation. These beers are so much better than anything else I've had, in their styles, and this is true across so many different types of beer. It's just unbelievable the degree to which I enjoy these beers more than other representations of the same style. I don't say this lightly either. It would be convenient if I didn't need to drive a thousand miles for my favorite beers, but that's just the reality of the situation."

I might be an idiot, because I find this system to be pretty confusing.

Edit: I'll amend to say that, after like half a dozen readings, I now understand. My confusion came from when the winners will be notified. Initially it sounded like they would notify you same day and you would basically have until EOB that day to get there. I now see that was incorrect.

It's definitely a bit convoluted, but definitely the most "fair" option. There will for sure be a ton of mule entries and resellers hoping to hit it big, but at least no one will complain about the lines.

This is one of the very few things I'm willing to make a cannonball run from SW PA for as I've never had Ann.

Would share with some pals though.

Oh hell yes. Ann is so good. Never thought we'd see it available to-go again. Glad to see a Lotto, it's the most fair system there is and prevents an end-of-days shitshow of releasing this bottle as a normal weekly release.

**** yes.
