I dont have any but I do have a question about hf magnums. Saw a post on a ISO:FT for one where the person w/ the magnum FT was making a big deal about how hard they are to acquire, how rare they are blah blah blah. So what is the deal with HF magnums. Can you shed some light on them?

I've been to Hill a decent number of times this past year and have never been lucky enough to buy a magnum retail or even see magnums being sold to the public. I've had to trade for all the ones I have acquired.

The only Magnum I left Hill with was the CD15 and it was empty. When they released CD 15 they were pouring tastings from it as we walked in and I asked for it and was lucky enough to get to take the empty bottle home.

yes they are completely randomly released at the brewery. They can be put out any day at any time.

Most of the rarer beers are bottled in Magnums for brewery staff, Shaun, or special events for raffles etc.

There are magnums of almost everything, but only a few of the more limited beers have made it out into the wild. Most notably the magnum of Ann which was raffled off at FoFA this year, Flora and some Civil Disobedience (10,13,15).

Occasionally they are treated like any other release (e.g., posted on the website, hang around for more than a few days, etc.). I think this has only happened with Anna and Arthur magnums.

More than they should. Regular shelfies are 40 (at least what I've been told and traded $4$ for). All depends on who's offering, nomsayin?

No

Normally they are 4X the price of the original bottle.

So Magnums of:
The shelf saisons are $40
The twilight of the Idols was $54
Flora: $120

Those are the ones I'm sure about I've never seen the other ones sold, and most of the super high end ones are raffled or given privately.

There is at least one exception to this rule, which is Vera Mae....$100 mags for whatever reason.

I have grabbed 4 Magnums at HF over various visits - Arthur, Florence, Convival x 2. All priced at 4 x retail, all bought between 3-5 PM random weekdays "off the shelf". Flora, CD15, Flora Plum, Vera etc are priced higher due to being special releases (Adam's right though, Vera is a bit of an exception because 4 x retail = $60). Couldn't help out on trade value per se though, passed them along to friends who I trade/drink with.

I think for the rarer ones, the market is kind of dictated by how much anyone wants an ultra rare bottle format since they have historically only been released in ultra small quantities, given to friends of the brewery or used as part of ceremony (festival raffles, etc). A CD10 magnum (not mine) was the major part of a trade that involved a Blauw a while back...

they pretty much bottle mags of everything and have so for the past couple years. some stay in house, some go to employees/friends, some for charity auctions, etc...
