Great to join you folks- I'm Luke, from Kansas City. I'm new to the homebrew world and I've got a Hefe in the secondary and a Porter in the primary. I'm looking to crack the first Hefe bottle open on my birthday, Oct. 30, so I'm pretty excited. :mug:

Welcome. Is that KC MO or KC KS? Hope the hefe is all you expect. I would normally make a crack about hefe, something about it being the evil step-child of beer, but since it is your first post and first brew I will let it go.

Now porter, that's a beer...

KC MO. Kansas City's Boulevard Beer has a great porter. I appreciate the leniency on the hefe. I love wheat beers, and it looked like an easy first beer. Any other suggestions anybody?

Depends, what do you like? Brown ales are pretty forgiving, but no point if that's not your style.

My first couple batches were Brewer's Best kits, which let me worry more about getting the process down and not have to think too much about the recipe. Not the all-in-one, pre-hopped extract kits; the BB kits (and others like them) come with extract, steeping grains, yeast, and everything else you need. Good beer, too.
