Hi!
I've thought about brewing beer off and on for a few years, I've decided getting going should be my winter project. I've looked at a little info. off and on, mostly this summer. I sorta picked this group at random off of a google search, don't know anyone here.

Me, me me, let's talk about me! I've been either a chef or restaurant manager for the past 17 years. I am on vacation this week, next week I begin training for a new career, as a surgical instrument tech. Basicly what this all says is that I am a bit of a sanitation freak. My beer may suck, but it definately won't be poison!

Let's see, other random stuff if anyone cares: photographer / visual artist, have done installation work. Married to an awsome guy who makes a living as a graphic designer. Like animals alot, have been known to raise moths, am working on the long term project of developing a decent butterfly habitat out of my yard / garden. No kids, currently dogless. Renovating a very old house. Blah blah blah.

I haven't even really looked at the threads yet. Guess I should do that, before I start asking a lot of redundant questions, huh?

Here is one of my babies: a male polyphemus I raised from an egg, through the larval stage to this lovely adult.

Welcome to the board. Please post any questions you have (after searching for them first) we will be glad to help you out.

So which is it, are you a cheese head or a flat lander?

Welcome!

I'd suggest reading How to Brew. The 1st edition is free online and amazon has the print version cheap.

It's a cool hobby! I'm sure you'll have a good time here - I found the board the same way you did. Feel free to ask lots of question and most of all - have fun!!

Is that thing a butterfly? or a moth? It's pretty cool looking!

Welcome.

You need to brew a lambic and use polyphemus on the label.

Silence of the Lambics.

Ha, that's awsome! We have all of this gum backed paper, I totally want to do that!

And yes, that is a moth. The Luna and the Polyphemus are both Saturniinae: Saturniini. Don't be fooled, I'm a bit of a hack and had to look that up!

Ya got me! I am from Beloit, originally. Currently living in Illinois and working in Wisconsin. I'm back and forth between the two all the time. I do realize the Bears suck, but the Packers haven't done anything too impressive since they creamed the Patriots.

BTW, I was running a cafe in Providence RI at that time. Normally we would not have been open on a Sunday, but I was basicly told that I had to open. I told the owner to bring in his friends and have a private party, leave me out. My last words were, "OK, but you know my Dad is a Packer fan...". So, I opened and Holly (another nice Wisconsin girl) and myself worked it. We were the only ones in the place cheering for the Packers, it got to the point where everytime they got the ball, we just started laughing. By halftime, we were clearing the place, I got to lock up and go home by the end of the third quarter.

So, yeah, back to beer! Is there anyone in this area that I can hook up with to check out what you're doing? I'm thinking it might be easier if I can actually see the steps and what kind of mess to make, first!
