Hop list (all pellets):

4 oz Cascade
2 oz Galaxy
2 oz Citra

This is what I was thinking:

(60 min) 1 oz Cascade
(30 min) 1 oz Cascade
(15 min) .5 oz of Cascade, Citra and Galaxy
(5 min) .5 oz of Cascade, Citra and Galaxy
(Dry Hop) 1 oz Cascade, Citra and Galaxy

Fermentables:
6lbs Gold LME

Grains:
1lb Belgian Caramel Pils

What do you all think?

I'd get a true clean bittering hop like Warrior or Magnum. I didn't like Cascade for bittering. I'd drop the 30 min addition and move it forward in the hop schedule or leave it out.

Do you think the IBU's are too high for the low ABV for the beer? IBU's are ranging about 88 and ABV is about 5.

Here is my new Hop Schedule I was thinking:

1. 60 minutes – 1 oz Cascade
3. 15 minutes - .5 oz Cascade/Galaxy/Citra
4. 5 minutes - .5 oz Cascade/Galaxy/Citra
5. Dry hop (7 days) – 1 oz Cascade/Galaxy/Citra

I was also thinking about adding 1lb DME to boost the gravity a little. This will put it at about 69 IBU's and 5.5-6% ABV. Thoughts?

Leave an ounce of each for dry hopping, and throw the remainder in between 5 minutes and flameout. :)

session ipa . ibus are high, hit more hops late or boosting gravity is a good idea

Yeah that's what I was afraid of too, to high IBU's. The problem is I can't make it to a homebrew store today to pickup more fermentables. I may just do .5 oz of cascade at 60 minutes. That drops the IBU's to about 58. Thoughts?

Have you tried hopbursting? Omit the 60 minute addition and do all late hopping?

Really tough to say without knowing the specific Alpha %'s of your hops - can you post those?

If not, 88 IBU's for an assumed OG beer of 1.050ish is way out of balance. Adjusting it down to 69 is a good adjustment. Your BU:GU ratio comes out to 1.38 which is well out of range of what a typical IPA would be. The IBU's being @ 69 are where they typically probably would be for an IPA, but considering your beer has a Pale Ale starting OG you have to consider the balance of the beer. Yes session IPAs should be bitter, but they shouldnt be painfully bitter. I think that's where considering the ratio is important.

For example, in the Pale Ale that I brew the OG is 1.052 and the IBU's as calculated in Beer Tools Pro come in at around 29. So that means my BU/GU ratio is 29:52 or .56. I whirlpool and the software doesnt really recognize this, so I figure my IBU's are usually a bit higher than what is reported in the software.

This being an IPA I would try and get the ratio to be closer to .8 on my system using BTP, so I would target an IBU level of around 40-50 and it should be a good balanced 'session' IPA.
