hi im new to homebrew im starting off with a larger but would like to no if any one has found a pack that is near to a Guinness taste or any ideas that could help many thanks dee

Welcome!

What kind of lager are you making? I think you could make a good beer, but it won't be anything like Guiness. Guiness is a stout- an ale. Stouts are not difficult at all to make, though, and many homebrew stores have kits that make them easy and tasty.

What is your kit like? There are many kinds out there, and it helps to know what you already have so we can recommend items for you.

BrewBuddy Homebrew Beer Starter Kit thank you

I'm not very familiar with those kits, but I know that ask you to add sugar to them. Do you boil them? I think they are just dissolve and ferment, so you don't add hops or anything to them.

If you make this first kit as instructed, it'll make a decent light tasting beer. Most of us don't like to add sugar to our beer, and would use malt extract instead. But in this lighter beer, the sugar might be just fine.

If you'd like to make something like a stout, though, you may want to consider a different approach. If you can buy malt extract, ale yeast, and hops separately, we can tell you how to make a stout without buying those refill packs for the Brewbuddy system. It really depends on what kind of results you want. There isn't a wrong way to do this- many people are happy with the "kit & kilo" kits to make beer. I think they are more common in the UK and Australia (and Canada maybe?) than they are in the US where I live.

I started with extract brewing, like in this online book: How to Brew - By John Palmer - Brewing Your First Beer With Malt Extract so it's a bit different than your kit.

I'm sure that others who have used the same kit can give more specific advice to your brewing issues. At this point, I would suggest just that you follow the proper sanitation guidelines and follow the instructions closely, and you'll have drinkable beer soon.

Brewers Best has a great Irish Stout that is easy to make and is very tasty! Not really like Guinness but a stout that even my SWMBO loved.

I'd recommend reading How to Brew as suggested by Yooper and then picking up an extract kit from someplace like Austin Homebrew or Northern Brewer if you want to make a good stout.

True, but I'm not sure if those are available in the UK. That's why I mentioned getting extract, grains, and yeast separately if possible and we could help you formulate a nice stout.

We need some more UK brewers to tell us what is available for them!
