help with new mill.

I just got the 2 roller crankandstein mill for christmas and I noticed while handling it that it leaves black residue on you hands. What can be used to clean this that is not gonna cause the steel rollers to rust or impart bad flavours in the beer.

I think all well-made mills have machining oil on them when you get them.

Run a pound or so of cheap malt through it and throw it away.

I've got a 3 roller crankandstein that I recently had re-knurled. It had machining oil and debris on it when I got it back so I took it apart and scrubbed it down w/ a degreaser and an old toothbrush. rinsed and dried it well then reassembled it. Works great and squeaky clean. Not many parts to it anyway.
