Need quick advice, just popped my wyeast smack pack and felt squirt hit me on face and saw all over counter. Looks like seal broke when I hit it.

Now its gonna swell up and leak out.
What do I do to salvage this pack for mid day brew.
Immediate advice appreciated.

Pour it into a sanitized container and cover it with cellophane or if the container has a lid, sanitize that too and put it on top. Spray the cellophane with star san if you use that.

You may have lost enough to warrant a second pack. Are you close to a LHBS or do you have any yeast on hand? What's the intended OG of the beer?

I'd open the pack the rest of the way (using sanitized scissors) and pour the contents into a sanitized vessel (Mason jar, Erlenmeyer flask, whatever), cover it with sanitized foil, and proceed with your brew day. Pitch the yeast after the wort has cooled, as you would have otherwise. Do not try to recover/reuse any of the yeast that leaked out.

Do you think the volume of remaining yeast has a chance of fermenting your beer?
Was the yeast, based on the production date, at the border line for needing a starter?
If the yeast remaining has no chance of fermenting out the beer, and more yeast is not available, you could use the remaining yeast to make a starter, then pitch the yeast tomorrow, keeping the wort cool and sanitary over night.

Isnt it just co2 that gonna leak out. Wouldnt the actual yeast stay in bottom of pouch.
Pin size hole at the opening notch of the pack.
Buddy also said just pour packet into boiled/cooled jar of water to keep hydrated.
Just need to make it til 2pm (8am now)

I agree, I would do this

In red: That's the worst advice I've ever heard. Liquid yeast is not going to dry up like that.

If it's a pin hole or small tear, sanitize the outside, and put a piece of tape over the hole. Pitch as intended.

Now how much yeast you lost and if the pitch is large enough, is for you to determine. Mrmalty.com can help you on the cell count and viability.

i agree with this. another suggestion is to have two fermentation vessels. put half your wort in one, pitch the yeast. put half your wort in the wort, cover until about the 24-hour mark (until the first signs of visible yeast activity show up), then pour in the other half of your wort.

Its just a few drops that leaked out.
Isn't the swelling just gas, not an increase in yeast volume.
Also this is one of two packs I was using, not the only one.

Think Ill go with Lizard, just tape hole and get brewing.
Only squirted 1 percent of 1 percent.
Main concern was the mess made and viability, not the yeast loss.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Good to hear you're pitching 2 packs. Learn about making starters and how to ranch, harvest, wash, and store yeast. Save $$.

You're not going to miss those few drops. and yes, the swelling is from CO2. Just shake the pouch well before pitching.

I am amazed how strong those Wyeast pouches are, to sustain that hard a whack to open the nutrient bubble. Wonder how that pinhole got in there?
