I want to make a recipe and it calls for rice hulls. I cannot find these in my home brew store (I live in London, UK). Is there something I can substitute? Are rice hulls used for flavour or sugars, or are they used for keeping the bed going given the recipe also calls for flaked wheat?

Rice hulls don't add anything to your wort, BUT, they are very helpful in preventing a stuck sparge when your grain bill has wheat, flaked or rolled oats, etc, which tend to create a gelatinous mass In the bottom of your tun around your manifold or false bottom.

Is there anything else I can use, because I can't find rice hulls.

post the recipe. I made a wheat beer yesterday using 7 lbs of wheat, so i used 8 oz of hulls. if you only have one lb of flaked or so you might not need it
