Hey everyone,

I'm new to the wine making world and just started to make my first batch of moscato, there's only one issue. I put mixed the juice, got everything set to go however when I went to put in the air lock the rubber grommet fell into the juice. I was hoping that it was going to be floating on top but unfortunately it sank to the bottom. I tried getting it out with the spoon but I couldn't find it. Out of options I coated my arm with antibacterial soap and rinsed it off and plunged it in and got the gasket. Despite my best efforts about half of the yeast got disturbed and sunk into the juice.

So my question is, should I scrap this batch and try it over again, or should I wait it out and see what happens?

It'll be ok, don't worry! It would have been ok left in there, as well. That happened to me on one of my first beer batches- I left it in there, and duct taped the airlock in place, and it turned out perfectly fine.

Don't worry!

Thanks Yooper,

I figured between dropping the gasket, mixing in the yeast and putting my arm in the juice I would have ruined something.

I did, I washed it thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap before putting it in lol.

Well, sanitizer would be a great addition!

Anyway, from now on don't put anything in your wine that isn't sanitized with a commercial sanitizer. (Soap is great for cleaning, but not for actually sanitizing).

Getting some bubbles out of the air lock, so I must have done something right!

Sounds like your case is solved, so to have a touch of fun with it; maybe you can come up with a creative name for this batch?

Like:
Right arm unfinder (or was it the left?)
Drunken elbow
Loose gasket
Search and rescue or search and no rescue!
