So far in my all grain brewing i have only done BIAB - and i am ready to go to the next step of using a mash tun and sparging. I have a 16 gal pot with a false bottom and tube filter from Bayou Classic already, and i am trying to decide if i want to go the cooler route for my mash tun or using this 16 gallon pot and buy a second pot to use at my HLT.

I know the cooler helps control the temp for mashing via the insulation, but it doesn't bother me to fire the burner up a time or two during the mash to maintain the temp as it gives me something to do while waiting for the mash to complete. So beside the insulation os a cooler better for any reason? Help me decide which direction to go?
Thanks

I went cooler because it was cheaper and easier. IMHO it's easier to maintain/control temps with the cooler compared to the blanket-wrapping I had to do with the kettle (when I did biab)
