Hi looking to go AG: interested in batches up to 6 gal, but would be happy to start out with a smaller batch for the first time (3 gal or so). Wondering if you guys could take a look at my setup and let me know what else I NEED and what else you would strongly recommend for someone starting out AG.

I currently HAVE the following gear:

Kettle: 5 gal turkey fryer kettle
Burner: came with turkey fryer
Mashtun: converted igloo cooler
Chiller: homemade IC; 50'
Fermenters: covered for a brew of 1-6 gal.
Other: 1 gallon kettle/pot, can borrow a 2 gal pot if needed.
Tools/Acc.: mash paddle, long spoon, hydrometer, all the regular stuff for doing extract brews and bottling.

What else do I need? I would be happy doing a smaller batch for my first couple batches to fit it in the kettle; but if there are other considerations that I should just do this right away so I can get the other features that come with a "real" 10 or 15 brew kettle let me know.

Thanks!

I once tried to develop a list of "needed" homebrew equipment and failed miserably. There is no such list. I continue to find new things to build and/or buy and have (tried to) convince SWMBO that they are all very much needed for the brewery. If you find such a list, please share as I'd love to compare notes.

If one was concerned about money on a runaway hobby (not to suggest that you are), then you could just try buying beer. Although, that's definitely not as much fun.

Best of luck. You may want to add kegging equipment to you list of "needed" items. Then comes the keezer build, then the fermentation fridge, then the nitro system, wort pumps, electric brewery build, etc... :)

Cheers!
