I have a few lbs of hops we grew & I don't think they are the right type that the shop said they were. How can I tell if they are the as advertised (Cascade & Galena) that we bought. Who could smell/test them for me in the San Diego area?
It's very difficult to identify hops using the methods you mentioned. For best results you can send the cones in for alpha testing, however that can be costly, and the alpha acids change depending on the weather of any given year.
When you brew with it the Galena is going to be more bitter than the Cascade.
