I just finished my first partial mash using DB's method (Thank you very much for your guide). I was wondering if someone could help me calculate my efficiency. My OG is quite a bit higher than Beer Smith predicted.

Grains:
3lb 2-Row
1lb Melanoiden
1lb Carapils

Mash - 2 gallons for 60 minutes at 160F
Mash SG = 1.050

Sparge - 2 gallons for 10 minutes at 160F
Mash + Sparge SG = 1.024

Added 4lb extra light DME, finished brewing and topped off to 5 gallons.
OG = 1.072

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's a button on the recipe view that says Brewhouse Efficiency that allows you to enter the actual measured OG and it will tell you the efficiency.

However, you either measured a slightly stratified wort gravity or you had a little less than 5 gallons there. 1.072 in 5 gallons would be 109% efficiency which is impossible. Did you measure the OG before adding topoff water?

I knew that couldn't be right. I figured out the problem. I had 3 2lb bags of DME and 3 3lb bags. I now apparently have 2 of each. So instead of 4lb of DME, I actually used 5lb.
