Hey all!

Just getting into home brewing. As in still researching. Haven't purchased anything yet to get started. That said, I'm very much looking forward to this journey and learning.

My background is in computers, but I wrench on a classic Nova and my Harley for a hobby, my hobby I spend the most time with is cooking - I frequently smoke meats and cheeses and craft my own recipes for many meals and snacks. That said, the thought of home brewing fits in quite well.

Looking forward to learning, growing and experiencing this.

Hello from Vancouver WA. Since you like cooking that's a lot like brewing you will love it. Welcome to your new obsession.

Welcome to the hobby, and the group, from Aurora CO :mug:

Lots of cooks, meat smokers, cheese makers, and more on the site, you'll fit right in!

Old West Homebrew Supply is the name of the lhbs there..
they have a website HERE.
that is the one i have been going to for several years now, and yeah, they are good.
Decent selection of ingredients and supplies. You can get everything you need to get ya started from there... i don't know of any in pueblo, though...
Once you start brewing, you wont want to stop... but, lots of patience is required..
Start with the boxes, and soon you will be doing all-grain, and even making your own recipes.... then moving up to wine and shine.. :D

Welcome, SuckerPunch - my mother was born and raised in Canon City, and it is in my opinion one of the most beautiful areas in the world ~

Lots of great folks here who have a lot of collective wisdom - jump right in!

Thanks I was hoping someone could tell me if it would be worth the trip up.

I am actually jumping in full bore, straight to all grain. I have an existing 10 gallon water cooler I'm going to use as a mash tun, have ordered up a 50-qt brew pot and propane burner, have been collecting pop-top bottles and have 50-60 of them and now just need pick up the fermenting buckets, transfer equipment (auto siphon, hose, wand etc), test/temp equipment (hydrometer, instant thermometer etc), caps and an all-grain kit or two to start.

Might grab a few (or just a couple) of carboys, too... i like to ferment in those, if you keep them in a dark, cool place, you can watch the magic happen... quite mesmerizing... also, you can prevent a mess by being able to see if it is getting crazy and you can get a blow-off in place..
They are also good for secondaries, to age and clear, to let all the sediment fall before bottling..

i just made a pumpkin ale yesterday, and have a smoky porter aging..
what is your style?

Definitely more medium to dark ales, porters and stouts for me even in the summer, though I have grown very fond of hoppier choices over the past year and do still enjoy lighter on occasion.
