i'm not sure what took me so long to register but i figured it was definitely time. after borrowing a wine kit a couple years ago and making a reisling, i hadn't put much more thought into brewing since the sanitizing part of wine making was a huge pain.

then my buddies and i began the talk again of brewing our own beer since we seem to drink so dang much of it. i was beat to the punch by my friend whose first brew was a tasty nut brown ale. not to be outdone, i soon followed with my first batch of homebrew, being a mandarin orange wheat. then i did an american pale ale, which turned out quite well. i've only done extract brewing and i'm still bottling due to the fact that i don't have kegging funds.

by the time i was ready to brew my 3rd batch, it had become too hot here in phoenix for me to try to keep anything at a fermentable temperature. however, i came across these here forums and EdWort's Apfelwein and figured i'd give it a go. 5 months later, it's quite tasty and i'm now getting the itch to brew another beer.

just wanna say thank you to everyone on here from whom i've already learned so much just by lurking. i can't wait to brew another batch!

Welcome to your new obsession in life!

Look around on Craigslist for fridges or freezers you can use for fermentation chambers, was the best move I made for living in the SE valley of Phoenix.

Greetings and welcome to the obsession. Lots of us Zonies on here as well with lots of tips/tricks for brewing in the summer. Here's a pic of a cheap and easy one. Put water in the tubs which will wick up the towels, and the fan blowing over them should keep it around 6 to 8 degrees lower than your A/C.

My father spent most of last winter in Gold Canyon and left in April to come back here... said it was too hot then. I couldn't even imagine how hot it gets in Az and Tx and the southern states this time of the year. I'm up now at 3:30 local time and can't get back to sleep due to the heat ( it's about 73f in my house without A/C ) Perhaps an ale will help me drift off.

all very good information. i've been contemplating the tub / fan idea for some time now. i might see if i can work it into the budget this weekend. i'm dying to get something brewing again but at the same time, i know once i start, i'm gonna wanna brew something every weekend. and i already know the swmbo will not be cool with that!
