Just joined the board today. Just waiting on equipment to show-up to get started. Been brewing at a local micro brewery recently to learn the process. Love having the opportunity to get started this way. Their set-up is a 40 gal all electric very cool but they also do a 10 gal home brew set up as well so it's been a blast learning so far.

Starting right in on all grain 10 gal set up. Can't wait.

Welcome! I don't hear of too many who start with all grain out of the gate but good for you! You have a ton to learn but it will be fun!

I do have Aton to learn but it should be fun. Glad I have someone to go through the learning curve with!

welcome, fellow LoCo brewer!

I'm a member of 2 local clubs, if you want to come check them out

Wort Hogs meets 2nd Wednesday of every month (this coming Wed) at Mellow Mushroom in Herndon. meeting starts at 7:30, but this week we start having a pre-meeting session, as part of an education series. first up, is learning from a sensory analysis kit, learning different off flavors. majority of meetings are competitions, if you want to check out the schedule at the website. this month is BJCP 15, German Wheat and Rye.

NoVA Homebrew meets 3rd Tues of every month (next Tues) at Old Ox Brewery in Ashburn. also 7:30pm. more of a tasting club. bring in some homebrew, some commercial and sit around discussing it.

I've learned a lot from both clubs, helping me become a better brewer

Welcome! Care to share which brewery... feel free to private message me if you don't want to publicly say.

Crooked Run in Leesburg. Check out their page on Facebook or stop by and see Jake or Lee if you are interested in volunteering with them.

Lol I had a feeling that was where you were talking about, I was there yesterday while you guys were brewing.... were you there? I was the klutz that dropped his glass out on the patio... then again a trip to adroit theory and then crooked run will do that!

been meaning to go back to Crooked Run since they resolved their scorched wort issue.

just don't get down to Leesburg very often.

DelMarVa does have Shadow of Truth, but I didn't get a chance to try it last time I was there. 50 taps is ALMOST too many choices

but it is an awesome sight

No but it's definitely something I may be interested in. I really wanna do a brew with adroit since they use the same system that I use for their pilot batches (brewmagic). Definitely felt at home at crooked run though!

Welcome to the forum and the addiction I mean obsession I mean hobby, near-neighbor.

Those two clubs are probably the closest and easiest for you, but there's other clubs closer into town as well.

And props for jumping head first and going all-grain from the start. That's a lot to take in right off the bat. I went AG quickly after I started, but still did a couple extract and then partial mash batches first to make sure I had the fundamentals down.

those are just the clubs I'm a member of

there is BURP (oldest & largest in the area, IIRC), DC Homebrewers & HOWL (Homebrewers Of Western Loudoun)

I like Wort Hogs & NoVA for their size (not too big. BURP is HUGE, over 300 members) & convenience. both meet within 5 miles of my house, just depends on which way I turn coming out of my court

I did one Mr. Beer and then went straight to all grain. It seemed like a no-brainer, but then I'm a horrible cheapskate and I don't want to pay $50 to make 5 gallons of beer. Anyway, good call!

Thanks for all the responses. We will look into the local clubs once we get going.
