After spending a few weeks reading the forums, watching videos of people brewing, and reading books and brewing instructions- I am finally ready to brew today.

If anyone is in the area, and wants to stop by, please do so. I live about a half mile away from the West Falls Church Metro on the Orange Line, and could probably arrange to pick you up.

I also have a 2L growler of Mad Fox Orange Whip IPA (made at the brewpub down the street from me) I am eager to share.

I have wanted and waited to do this for years, but have always been limited by space and temperature considerations- NO LONGER!!!:rockin:

Hi Austill,

I hope your brew day went well. NoVA is a great place to live, and I'm glad you are finding it a great place to make beer. Have Fun and make beers you enjoy drinking.

Good Luck
Patrick

It went pretty well, thanks. I had trouble controlling my temp during the steep, though (mostly around 180). The problem was that I only had two lbs specialty grains and not enough water to submerge them (I have a 7.5 gallon brewpot), unless I went way over the recommended amount of water. The boil went smoothly, though I have to be more careful handling (D, L)ME. I also foolishly made the assumption that my better bottle had, at least, gallon graduations.

I am now on my 3nd day of fermentation, and debating over getting a second fermenter (My LHBS is never open when I can make it there, and ordering one online would take too long, would it not?). The trub is mostly gone, and the airlock isn't making any noise. The temp has stayed a pretty steady 72.

Oh how I remember the metro:)

I can assure you it has become much worse (and more expensive) since you stopped taking it. Indeed, I have only been taking it for two years, and it most certainly has become both in that time.

Hello, HBT!

I may as well tag here and say another hello from Arlington, although quite a few stops closer on the metro to DC. I can't say my homebrews are going great, but it's a work in progress. I'm moving to a hopefully better space nearby soon.
