I'm getting back into Homebrewing after about a 15 year hiatus. Back in the day I used to do a lot of step mashing using a 10gal all-grain system I built using the standard gravity system with a converted keg for the LT, Cooler Mashtun, and a 15-gal stainless pot with propane gas rings. I used to design most of my recipes and also designed a few recipes for a local homebrew supply.
I also used to have quite a yeast collection, which I cultured, and which I hope to start rebuilding as time goes on. Much of the yeast was obtained through yeast sharing with the Boston Wort Processors, of which I was a member. Other yeast I cultured directly from bottles of commercial beer. However, it looks like there is a lot more availability of yeasts now, so maybe it won't be as necessary.
I'm a software/electrical engineer and am going more high tech now. I'm in the process of putting together a Brutus 20 Countertop system so I can do it in the house (I'll see what my wife and daughter think of the smell...lol). Being married with child now I have limited space and time so I'm going to make it as easy as possible.
