Hello! My name is Matt. I'm 31 years old, been married for 11 years, have two cool kids and I LOVE beer. I've been in the Air Force for over 12 years now. I am currently a flight engineer on the E-3 AWACS at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage. I'm proud to be an American and love this great country of ours. I've been to more countries I can count, and all 50 states. I have yet to find any place on the planet that can even come close to being as awesome as the good ol' USA! I've been stationed in Texas, New Jersey, Oklahoma and now Alaska and have been having a great time! I am from Oklahoma City originally. I have lots of hobbies. I have my pilots license, fly RC airplanes, hunt, fish, snowboard, camp, etc. There's nothing I love more than hanging out with my family and friends though. I'm very fortunate. I have a great job, comfortable life, and I was able to put myself through college courtesy of the Air Force. I also have a hot, understanding wife! It doesn't get much better than that.
I've always been a beer lover. It's a very rare occasion when I get really drunk. I like a decent buzz, but I hate getting totally blasted. I just love beer. It's fantastic. A friend of mine recently gave me a 12 pack of his home brew for helping him fix the brakes on his van. In the Air Force, beer is a form of currency. Anyways, I was pretty skeptical at first. Matter of fact, it sat in my fridge for two weeks while I avoided it. Finally, I decided to give it a shot and it was absolutely fantastic. Like an orgasm for my face. I started asking around and it turns out, a couple of people I work with are into home brewing. They have me convinced now. They recommended a brewing store in town and I went and checked it out tonight. By the time I got there though, they were about to close. Traffic in Alaska is absolutely ridiculous. Most people don't associate Alaska with traffic problems. It's worse than when I lived in New Jersey. Anyways, the guys at the brewing store were awesome. They stayed late and answered my questions and gave me all sorts of info and advised me to take my time and do some research. I'll definitely be going back to them. One of the customers in there was telling me about his setup. Said that he hasn't bought beer from a store in almost 20 years now. He was showing me pictures of his 4 keg fridge. I'd have to say that I was insanely jealous!
Anyways, I'm afraid that I'm about to have a new hobby that I'm pouring a lot of money into! HA! It seems like I always have a friend or somebody at my house having a beer or two with me. Summer time in Alaska is coming. It's like a block party every weekend around this place. I need to be ready! I'll be picking you guys' brains a bit. I'll probably go get my starter set this weekend when I can get back down there. This forum looks awesome! The information is overwhelming!
