Anyone have experience with the fraction of yeast cake to use on a low flocculating yeast like a Hefe? I'm guessing the 1/4 fraction that a lot of people use for other yeast strains might not be equivalent? Or possibly it would be about right if you're looking to under pitch for strong banana esters?

TIA!

A volume of yeast is a volume of yeast. Use a calculator to find the ml of dilute trubby yeast required. Pour that much water in a spare fermenter to see what it looks like. Pour out the yeast cake until its the same volume.

Each strain has different growth habits, as well as other environmental and wort variables. All those variables are probably as big as flocculation, in determining the amount of yeast cake you get. The 1/6th to 1/4th is the roughest of estimates.
