Sounds like the same thing as Muscovado sugar, and I've really enjoyed using that!

I've been using India Tree's Dark Muscovado sugar in darker, heavier beers when I want to dry out the beer some and add some brown sugar/molassas kind of flavors. e.g. in my Old Ales, Barleywines & Porters. Usually at 3%-5% of total fermentables..

It definitely has a different flavor than honey or white sugar... although rather subtle at those proportions..
