Has anyone purchased older hops?

So I just placed a bulk order online. I was looking to order a pound or 2 of magnum since I use them a lot for bittering. The company only had the 2014 crop in stock. I needed more, so I went ahead and ordered just 1 pound.

They came in vacuum sealed bags which is great! However, Im just curious, has anyone ordered a slightly older batch of hops? I havent opened them yet, so I dont know what they smell like, but I did get them in the freezer straight away. If it turns out theyre a total loss, meh, its my own fault and not the end of the world but I am hoping theyre ok. Anyways, whats your experience been with ordering year old hop crops?

I guarantee they're fine. Some alpha acids among other things will be less but there's no way to really know.

I'm still using last year's hops on IPAs and they're still delicious. At this point I'm adding another gram or two per ounce to compensate.

I have bought lots of bulk hops on clearence sales, and many year old batches worked fine. I do not have lab equipment to tell exact levels of alpha/beta, but I usually just assume 30percent less than labeled and beer turns out great. aroma hops are another story. those do tend to be noticeable, but irrelevant in this case.

I guess thats what I was most curious about. Obviously I have no way of knowing how much AA are gone, but wasnt sure if its an extra gram or two, or an extra oz or two. I guess Ill just try adding a little over what the recipe wants and go from there

Ya, thats why I bought just older bittering hops. All the aroma hops I bought are freshies

Well it may be an ounce or two over an entire pound.
