i did a quick search of the site and didn't come across anything. Anyone ever try to replicate this beer?
Thanks.

I've been working on a recipe for a little while now. Plan on brewing it today or tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out. Already have a 6 pack of the real deal for comparison.

Here's a screenshot of the first iteration. Sorry for the odd grain weights. I work in kg.

Just brewed it last night, and everything went well. Hit my target OG right on the head at 1.068, so assuming the yeast does its job, this should work out. Couple weeks and I'll get it in a keg and hit it with the citra dry hop. I'll keep you updated.

Cheers!

Update time!

Beer turned out great. The hop aroma was bang on, so I think the 2oz citra dry hop was perfect. I ended up getting a more efficient mash than I expected, so this ended up being a 7.5% beer. Didn't have room in the keg to dilute, so it's not quite an apples-to-apples comparison. I find the Steamworks beer smoother on the mouth, whereas mine has a bit of bite to it. I'll have to do another comparison after my beer has a bit more time to sit and chill out.

The attached picture was taken a couple days ago, after 3 days off force carbonation in the keg and 2 days since adding gelatine. Mine is on the right and is significantly clearer than the real deal. Looks like Steamworks leaves this beer pretty much unfiltered.

Overall I'd say the recipe is pretty damn close. I'll tinker a bit and try to drop the gravity down to where it should be. May assist the grain bill a bit, but I don't think I'll touch the hops at all. Let me know if any of you brew this. I'll be curious how it turns out.

Hi! First of all, congrats for making your beer turn out well! I'm about to try this recipe myself as well. There's just one gap: yeast. Would you care sharing what whas the yeast you used?

Hi, I used WLP001 for this batch. I had harvested off a precious batch, and used a starter for this one so I can't be too sure on cell count. You should be fine with a single tube though. Mashed for an hour at 158°F, batch sparged, boiled, chilled to around 70°F and pitched yeast at that temp.

Good luck, and let me know how it works out!

Thanks! Will be trying this out at some point! Will definitely let you know how it went. :)

edit. Might actually have to wait until October.. WLP011 works between 20–23°C (68–73,4 F) and as I'm fermenging inside my apartment, it won't be cold enough until the Autumn comes. :D

I'll let you know in any case!

I know for a fact that the flagship beer uses the Imperial yeast A04 Barbarian.
I have brewed with this yeast quite a few times and it gives it that silky smooth mouth feel.

Thanks for the tip Bile! I'll have to brew it again as well. Lot of breweries here in Van switching over to Imperial yeast.

Fermenting a batch as we speak. I found out I can have this ferment in the basement. Third day in the container, second day seeing the yeast go nuts inside. I've got high expectations! :)

So, my batch has been in the bottles for 3 weeks and four days now and I can say I'm very happy with the product! I haven't made side to side tasting yet, so not sure if I managed to get close to the original or not. Will try in a month or so. I couldn't hit the target abv of 6,7 % – only got 6,2 %. Also, I used WLP001 instead of Barbarian 04, so that will surely count.

Anyway, I like the taste so much that I will surely make another batch of this at least once I've upgraded my gear so that I can do larger batches.

Hey I'm glad it turned out! I'll have to try this one again soon with the Barbarian. I used US-05 and hit 6.6%, but I'll chalk that up to luck. Working on a proper fermentation chamber, so that should help. Thanks for the update! Enjoy!

Drinking a Flagship right now. Delicious stuff; really reminds me of a higher ABV Blindman New England Pale Ale.

Anyone else ever master this recipe?

Seems quite light on the hops. Did you end up with enough hop flavor? It's pretty hoppy! As far as I can tell, most beers of this style call for heavier hop bills.

I bought a four pack of this while I was down in Georgia last week and it was surprisingly good. I'll have to give this a go one of these days.
