I am going to brew a batch tonight and plan to use S-04 yeast. I have a batch in a primary bucket with a S-04 yeast cake. The cake is about 1/2" over the primary bucket spigot.

It seams like I can just use the spigot to draw some yeast out of the primary bucket and pitch. I think this is what people do with conical fermenters.

Will this work?

If not, I could transfer my beer from primary, transfer a cup of yeast to a santized container, clean/sanitize the bucket, and put the cup of yeast back into the sanitized bucket.

I tried it. It didn't work. I got a little yease initially, but then a "channel" developed and the beer started flowing.

No big deal. Just racked to secondary and took yeast from the primary.
